Funny thing I learned about wine (and, to a lesser extent, champagne) after three years working in the liquor department at Osco - you don't have to spend a fortune on a bottle of wine to get something tasty. I had a lot of people come in looking to spend about $30 to $40 for, say, a bottle of merlot, and I kept recommending this Chilean merlot for $10 a bottle. I think I only had one person say they didn't agree with my recommendation, and no one ever criticized that particular merlot.
Now, vodka is an entirely different story.
