Greetings all,

This is not an "officially sanctioned" Powerfest event and will certainly be changed or cancelled if Chris and Rob announce another Thursday activity that everyone will want to go to, but in the meantime...

I will have a cookout at my home in Valparaiso, IN (about an hour east of Chicago Heights) on Thursday night April 6. This won't be convenient for many people of course, but is do-able if you're driving or renting a car when you get to Chicago. If you were planning on paying for a hotel on Thursday night anyway, Valparaiso is just as good as Chicago Heights, but also close enough for an easy drive to one of the P-fest hotels afterwards.

This will not be a knock-down-drag-out-till-the-wee-hours event, since I have two young kids who need their sleep, and I need to be up early Friday to teach an 8am class. But, those of you who want to come out to relax, have a beer and some hot dogs / burgers / brats / whatever, and socialize, are welcome to do so. If you want wild and crazy partying, please check out the nudie bars that Mike Eckman posted about on the PF forum :)

If you're interested, drop me a private message on UM or e-mail me at metalprof@verizon.net and I'll get you directions.

Hotels closest to my house include:

http://www.super8.com/Super8/control/Booking/property_info?propertyId=08982&brandInfo=SE

(Obviously the cheapest one.)

http://www.hiltongardeninn.com/en/gi/hotels/index.jhtml?ctyhocn=CHICTGI

Not the cheapest, but the most convenient for traveling since it's right at the Valparaiso / Chesterton toll road (I-90) exit and about 5-10 minutes from my house.

Ken, that sounds like fun, for those of us who aren't into the titty bar scene (especially if there's nothing "official" going on Thursday)... let's see if there's any kind of official pre-party first, but if not, then I'm in! And I won't be drinking, so if anyone wants to ride there and back with me and keep their Thursday reservation in Chicago Heights, you're more than welcome to come.

This will not be a knock-down-drag-out-till-the-wee-hours event

There'll be plenty of that during the rest of the festival. :)
