Upon Reflection

I still listen to that Solefald and Arcturus, both are some pretty tasty shit. If the new Woods of Ypres is on the same level as those two, I need to get it.
I think I'm just done with the sub-genre for a while. I don't truly think those bands are at melo-death level quite yet, just because there is so much depth to it. So it might just be me needing a break.

Didn't I send you the new WoY promo? Or at least, didn't I give it to you when we were in NY? If not, I'll dig it out this weekend and send it to you. I bet you'd like it actually ("Summer Black Metal" = lots of clean vocals). At minimum, you gotta hear "Pursuit of the Sun pt 1 & 2". :kickass:

I don't mean to be a downer, but don't get your hopes up.

Ok, so I guess I did mean to be a downer. Well fuck it. Just don't want you getting excited over something only to get dissapointed. Then again, you might love it. Don't expect anything really similar to Arcturus or Solefald.. more like Agalloch/Opeth/Ulver. Blah.

No, you didn't give me WoY! I'll doublecheck tonight in case I'm just retooded though.

AWMM, you made a funny, I'm proud of you. :tickled:

Hahahaha you totally failed at not being a downer since I love love love Agalloch and Ulver and only love/like Arcturus and Solefald.

I don't get my hopes up for much of anything nowadays, so don't worry. I'm pretty jaded unless I'm already familiar with the artist.

That’s why i find it so amusing that the latter day saints of our business:
1) attributed to me motives that just weren’t there, and
2) accused me of corrupting morality... which... I wish I had the power to do.

Prepare to die.

It's like 3am for you right now isn't it? :tickled:

Now that this thread has been suitably jacked and turned into a WoY thread (at least temporarily), I must reinforce my opinion that Shedding the Deadwood is the best and most memorable track off the album for me. The metal ones have some weird and not good riffs, particularly the more melodic ones. Something very bland about them, but Shedding... has a lot of emotion and very nice lyrics. Lyrics are one thing I still like quite a lot about this album.

If I have the promo, I'll send it.

When I reference Arcturus / Solefald, I'm talking about 'Black Metal music' interspersed with lots of clean vocals. Ahh, you know what I'm sayin'.

I like "The Sea of Immeasurable Loss."

Oh wait wrong release

If we're gonna talk about Against the Seasons, they're all good, but Sea of Immeasurable Loss and Awaiting the Inevitable are the biggest winners. I guess the new one was pretty much an expansion of A Meeting Place And Time taken to the extreme (in the non-extreme way, if you take my meaning).

For WoY I didn't like at first, since its so different from the demo, but has grew on me alot, and now its turning into one ov my favorites, the next album is supposed to be winterthemem, so I'm looking forward to it.

Dave's got demos down for the new one and he says I (and I take it.. WE)should like it more than Purusit...!

This must be a good thing. Unless it's just generic BM. But I don't think he would do that to us.

Really? I always thought "Awaiting..." was a tad weaker than the rest, still good tho.

1. The Sea of Immeasurable Loss
2. A Meeting Place and Time
3. The Shams of Optimism/Crossing the 45th Parallel
4. Awaiting the Inevitable

This is what I think. Still one of the best demos ever.

How was the new WoY received elsewhere? Other zines and so forth? I've asked David a couple of times to come here and voice his opinions, particulary in the thread containing Erik's review, but he hasn't done so yet.

He's been busy with the other band he's in (Will of the Ancients), and with WoY related stuff, I guess. A lot of other places gave it fucking smashing reviews. There was a thread on the Woods forum that you'd be interested to see. It contains Dave's opinion on a very negative review of Pursuit...
