I read it. I agree pretty much 100% with it, but I do not see that the score fits with the review.

guess the guy coulda just been going for the effect of shocking all the ZOMG WOY RULZ!!!!!I!1!!1!!! people.

Interesting review, and thread. Never heard of that forum board. I thought Dave had a good point with regards to just putting the album away for a while. Maybe that's the solution to my problem (and a CD-R of Fleurety from BWD). :loco:

@Erik - I don't think David didn't post here because he thought your review was negative. He holds us in quite high regard (we were mentioned in the liner notes etc, and we got two promos and a full length version). If anything, I think he appreciated the honesty, but it's still better to hear his reaction I think....

I tried listening to that Age of Silence, and I couldn't even make it past track #2. The same thing happened with the last Solefald album. And I can't even remember the last time I reached out for "The Sham Mirrors".....
Age Of Silence = A CLASS PROG METAL

Me is the guy with the Down With the Deadmen cover for my avatar. He called me a "downer". haha

edit:
if i wasn't such a downer, i'd change my avatar to the beer one over there too.

I still find myself listening to Arcturus and Solefald, most recent releases included, often...I think it's failure the differentiate that sound in their other endeavors that is causing indifference with that style, which isn't nearly the dead end melodeath has become.

It's maybe a time of the year thing, because the first Arcturus album, or Solefald's "Linnear Scaffold" is working just fine for me these days. It's cold outside you know.

Fuck AoS and Fuck that troll of theirs that was lurking around here a few months back.
 I think he works for the band.

Mention "Age of Silence" and he appears.....

What would some people do without UM's search functionality? :tickled:

And I wouldn't call any post-"Bloodhemn" Enslaved BM, nor any post-"s/t" Borknagar.

Agreed, and as Jay said - I'd refer to it as "Prog-BM" (if you even want to refer to it as black metal) or "avant-garde BM". Besides the Borknagar s/t, I muchly prefer new Borknagar to older stuff.. but Its the other way around with Enslaved (still the newer more prog albums are masterpieces).

Just call it "progressive metal". All this Norwegians that discover 70s music give the chance all are waiting for the genre to purify its name by not having another dream theater clone under its umbrella.
