using a laptop to enhance live performances

this thread is inspired by the midi setup thread.
does anyone use a laptop with heir DAW and audio interface to enhance live performances.
such as having clicks set up, using samples for the drums (or programmed drums) playing backing vocals, running bass di, adding effects to vocals and having a midi track to trigger channel switching ect.

im interested in doing this in the future with my new macbook, and was wondering if anyone else does this, and how much success they have.

It's my ambition to do it one day. Right now my laptop is kinda old and doesn't like that much cpu load, and besides, our drummer and a click track are sworn enemies
