Using a PodXt as a pre-amp for impulses

Yeah dude, tweak to your heart's content if it sounds good! The thing to realize is that an impulse just models everything from the power amp onwards, so since the majority of guitar tone shaping comes from the preamp, that's where you'll wanna work on to get the best sound. And the tone of my response was cuz this has been covered A LOT, but on the other hand, at least you know what an impulse is, so you definitely deserve credit for that! 
Well, I just recorded a song using PODXT only pre-amp and then put an impulse, but using only Pre-amp in PODXT does not produce good results. The song I was recording was clean guitar. So for some reason (I used DBL Verb amp model) having pre-amp only there is weird .. how to explain it random string noises. it sounds like glitches as if something was wrong with my computer and interrupted the recording for a second every now and then.

Depending on your DAW, this could be the effect of a number of things. Check your buffer and bit rate in your ASIO setting with your interface/input (POD) and your output...(where you are monitoring)

Hehe, thanks. Yeah I'm absolutely sure it's been covered, however I searched it and nothing came up.
I'm asking for tips because I had read somewhere that you should put all your preamp settings in the middle. Which sounded weird to me. I tried experimenting a bit, but I figured why not ask a few questions to see which direction to head in for the better results.

effects off, cab off, start with everything as neutral as possible and then start shaping the tone eq b4 adding effects.

just curious here, since I don't have a POD...does using its "preamp" only setting sound as bad by itself as going out the preamp out of a real amp? most amps sound terrible with just the preamp out.
for some reason, I figured the POD would soften its preamp up a bit if used by itself. circle one: True or False

Yeah, I dunno where that "tone controls in the middle" thing came from, but it's fallacious. And thanks for the props on my 'pulses dude; I'm gonna be making a new batch soon with my Dual Rectifier!

False - with the cab simulation off on the pod, it sounds like fried assholes in the same way other preamps do (AKA perfect for impulses)
fuck, now I want one.
Eh, not worth it, the technology is still super-outdated - then again, I can't think of a better sounding hardware preamp (digital or otherwise) for the money, but plugin ampsims are the way to go if your comp can handle it!
