I am fairly unfamiliar with the concept of impulses when applied to digital guitar signals but I was wondering whether it would be proper to use impulses on a Line 6 Podxt generated tone or would that have no purpose because the podxt already seeks to emulate the natural reverberation of a speaker cabinet.

I don't know about the XT, because I own an X3, but it should be the same
just choose no cabinet as your cab and run that through the impulse
I used the treadplate head straight into an impulse
it's on my band's myspace if you wanna hear it(The first 15 seconds is an effect, not the actual guitar sound)

not exactly true
I run gearbox and laconvolver through reaper realtime
no latency whatsoever
but like narcossintese said you don't NEED impulses
I much prefer external impulses over the stock line 6 ones though
I'm actually running through some impulses from Recabinet
check it out if you are interested in getting more impulses
