my fav is pointing the mic directly at the left side of the dustcap then turning it till it faces the other side of the dustcap. just did that with 4 mics on 2 halfstacks with good results.

Less angled than Burny and in the directed to the cone... 1 inch to the grill.
I'm not studio-guy, only from time to time, but that this is how i do for live shows and sounds awesome.

I dont know why, but with whatever position i try, i never achieved a good guitar tone, even on the studio i work on. Its always fuzzy and honky, specially with a 57. I am always jealous of you guys talking about your great tones and how you achieve ´em

It depends from the speaker, from the amp, from the playing and from the genre. Sometimes I mic like this and sometimes I aim the mic to the junction (little more to the left of the picture)

Plus tunings etc etc.

I play standard E. I go center cone with a 40 degree twist.
