Vader The Beast (2004 sampler)

1. Out of the Deep
2. Firebringer
3. Apopheniac
Split 3 song sampler with the new AMON AMARTH, Metal Blade is trying to minimize piracy, and I dont have a problem with this type of approach. They cant expect a real involving review of an album with only a handful of songs presented, but Im sure they know this. VADER has a tendency to be hit or miss with me, some is absolutely stellar death metal, and some is pretty average. I will never fault a group for not making perfect album after perfect album, but some people have a problem with bands like this.
Probably the most distinctive aspect of VADER is Piotrs vocals. While there are tons of bands playing thrashy death metal, few have real distinctive vocals like this. Menacing yet always understandable, this provides a great compromise for death metal fans like me who got tired of ridiculous burped and vomited vocals years ago.
This is a pretty standard late period VADER release, relying more on speed than technicality but still completely relentless. Good riffs, rapid fire drums, and great vocals. The only problem is these songs all sound the same, I cant tell when one ends and the next begins. Fast riff, fast riff, pause, guitar solo, fast riff, pause, fast riff. The third song is slower, but still follows the same basically formula and doesnt remain terribly interesting. If youre looking for more of the same from these dudes that shouldnt be a problem, but when VADER is on, they have the ability to make distinct pieces. In other words Id rather listen to Litany than this one.
So they arent as brutal or amazing as they were in years past, but VADER is still a force to be reckoned with. If you want more standard VADER, The Beast is for you.
