Varg Vikernes speaks out against "Lords of Chaos"

http://burzum.org/eng/library/article45.shtml

"The spirit of Black Metal was all about individualism, artistic integrity, originality, strength of character, contempt for the followers and finally creativity. It is clear to all of us that some of the people involved in the 1991 and 1992 Norwegian Black Metal scene were indeed nothing but followers, but in any case that is the true spirit of Black Metal. And you tell me: how much of that spirit is left in the Black Metal scene we see today?"

this guy still seems to be trapped in his teenage years or something to that nature.
he reminds me of people that call you a "poser" ... for pretty much no reason.

he claims he never listened to Venom (altough I don't buy that) ... wow ... how cool ?!?!?!?

the book is no brilliant work, I agree with that ... especially the second half, which is just a snoozefest

The best part of the book was the end, where the writer told stories of kids going on killing rampages and shit.

no. he's reasonable to some extent, and I absolutely regard him as very intelligent. There's no doubt about it, but the man has some serious psychological... "fuzz"

Yes, I've read various interviews and parts of Vargsmål. Some of his ideas of very...bizarre? but overall I think he's very intelligent.

I think Ted Bundy was brilliant, but he was still one sick fuck.

I have one Burzum album and it's pretty fucking good, and I think Varg is a little wacky, but eh, whatever.

Hello and thanks for the old news.

I think people bashing Varg because they think he changes his views in a major way every week are stupid, it's been fucken 15 years since he was a lotr-worshipping kid who thought satan seemed kool and all of that (no need to bash that part of this post, I know bla bla bla) and now he's a nazi. If I don't changemy views in any way in that time I will be surprised.

He seems much more reasonable now than he used to be. The rebuttal/article was well-written (and old news :p) and doesn't descend into anti-metal/jew/Christianity diatribes like previous Varg texts have the tendency to do.

What I want to know is this: 95% of today's BM was inspired by Burzum/Varg. Yet most of thes people have very conservative stances on BM: anything that pushes boundaries is considered to be un-true. Yet Varg is against this uncreative stagnation... So where did the idea come from that BM should never "advance"? It certainly wasn't from the genre's godfather. Hell, just look at Quorthon's career. And Mayhem, love 'em or hate 'em. Oh yeah, and Emperor, Ulver, etc.

So just where did these kids get the idea that black metal should be limited to strict boundaries of creativity?

I think you're confusing all change for "advancement." Really, most musicians in worthy BM bands will not be against advancement of the genre, as long as it happens within the ideological boundaries of the genre. Therefore, "Prometheus," "Nexus Polaris," "A Grand Declaration of War" or "Enthrone Darkness Triumphant" are spat upon as they simply incorporate gimmicks and elements which have no place in BM, they do not actually push the genre further.
