Yep, I used to have a VHT classic, great amp, but somehow didn't cut it for me back than (not enough saturation) so I got rid of it (probably a mistake seen from todays point of view as a studio-owner).
Anyway, I just got the VHT 2150 Poweramp and although the tubes are beyond old it shits all over my mesa simulclass 295 (which IMO still is the best poweramp Mesa offers/offered).
damn, this VHT has such a nice Midrange that just cuts like butter and is monster-aggressiv!
plus the bottom end is tight as fuck but still really big, for comparison I just recorded the 5150 preamp out through the VHT and compared that to the all-5150 file.
the VHT has got quite a bit more around 100Hz (the freq I usually boost a bit) and less below 80hz (compared to the peavey's poweramp)
as well as a bit less of the really high highs (around 10k).
the VHT seems a bit more dynamic and 3-D than the 5150 alone.
what a great amp!
I think the nice upper mids of the VHT will be a perfect combination with the Recto's-Preamp, so that's the next thing to try.
