Vocal Swells?

I need some help creating vocal swells (I'm not sure if that's what you'd call them.. whatever) where it goes from a kind of talking/yelling part into a scream

There's a good example in this song at approx. 2:35



Is that something I need the vocalist to do and how would I get a take like that/how would I mix it?

I'm sure you some dude will come in with some elaborate 100 step advice but just record them. Double them. Compress them. Automate them.

Yep, it's exactly what it sounds like. Yell into a scream. If your vocalist wants that sound, tell him him to sing like that. If he can't sing like that, tell him to stop sucking.
