So I tried the Elastic Audio-mimic-thingmabob for Reaper AdamWathan described (http://www.ultimatemetal.com/forum/production-tips/562657-how-mimic-elastic-audio-reaper.html) and ended up editing my guitar di's for a cover song I did last summer.
Now I want to know if you can hear any signs of this procedure after running the di's through amp sims. I just don't trust my own ears anymore this late in the evening...

I did not edit the tracks perfectly to the grid, but left them a little loose. They're still a shitload tighter than they were originally, though.
