Warrel Dane - Praises to the war machine

Good album. My only gripe with it is that the lyrics don't seem like they are at quite nevermore level. There's alot of amature-ish rhyming that I never really hear in nevermore. The songs are great otherwise.

I love this album. In fact, I like it more than Jeff's solo album (despite me being a guitarist myself :goggly:). Your Chosen Misery is by far my favourite song off the album, and perhaps one of my favourites all-time.

this.

speaking of which, broderick was supposed to do a solo on this album, yeah? what happened with that?

Was wondering the same thing Felix. One moment I was reading the thread. Then I did a refresh to check for newer comments...and the thread was gone. What the hell?

Is there a specific song you guys would recommend for people who haven't really been able to get into his vocals in Nevermore?

I love everything about Nevermore except for Warrel Dane's vocals... just can't get into that operatic style of vocals... comes across very cheesy to me...

I used to think the same thing, I avoided Nevermore for two years because of the voice, but I've got into it now :D

Dead Heart In A Dead World is my favourite album, and thats the first one I listened to that I started to like.

I meant on this WD album. I already listen to Nevermore... Loomis is pretty much my favorite guitarist... so, I just kinda tune Warrel Dane out when I listen to them. haha.

When We Pray

I don't get that operatic part - is that a common attribute to anyone that actually sings or what?

IMHO the reason why most people have troubles getting into Warrel's voice (and many of those come to worship him later on) is that he is very distinctive and unlike all others. He carved a niche of his own with his instantly recognizable style which, for some, requires a period of adaptation.
He's all but a typical metal singer and I love him for that, I deeply respect any performer which has such a strong musical personality... Many have claimed that he sung better in Sanctuary (mainly because of the everlasting childish measure for "good" vocals - the higher the better) but I strongly disagree - you can't even compare those forced falsettos to a rich and expressive voice he developed in Nevermore.

comes across very cheesy to me...

Can't be cheesier than those boring trendy screamo vocals :Puke:

Long Answer: not any more so than myself, or any other of the lifelong musicians i know... you gotta be a certain degree of "eccentric", at least by the standards of the rest of society, to live the life we lead. Warrel is a very nice guy, and i consider him, as i do all the Nevermore guys, a good buddy.

Short Answer: yes, he is!
would he butcher an armadillo? joking, i'm over it ;)
I love every tune of this album, what solo (/i) did you play james?

ah, so you don't have the liner notes to read... i wonder what that means? :Smug:

i play the solo on "The Day The Rats Went To War", ;)

Absolutely loving this album, front to back! The only track that falls a bit short for me is "Love To Let You Down", that one feels a bit drawn-out. Excellent choice and interpretations of the covers, too. As usual with WD's bands/projects.

Warrel's voice and style really is an acquired taste, for almost everybody I know. In fact, I've never met anybody who really loved his style/voice upon first listen, but for the people who eventually 'click' with him, he - ironically - often becomes one of their favourite singers. It's been the same for me.

I'm a guitarist. Loomis insane riffs and solos brought me to Nevermore, but it was Warrel's singing who took them to a special place in my heart. I sometimes ask myself: "How much are people missing out on NVMR, if they can only relate to the instrumental part of the band?"

Albums like "DNB" are so heavy and I'm not talking about sick riffs, but emotions. The whole package. There's so much anger, desperation and sadness... a real "bittersweet feast".

And yeah James, your solo's great on that track and very recognizable with those harmonized parts and the strong vibrato. Tasty.

I don't own it. you remember back in the ancient days, those guys hanging around someone elses house drinking beer and listening to new records. I'm one of those guys!
