I read that the analog mode in the ssl/api plugs are adding nothing but noise. So do you always turn it of? What about the analog mode for the CLA pack? turn it off?

In the CLA pack it's just to add more realism, 50 cycle hum to sound like a unit in Europe and 60 cycle hum to sound like it's in the states. The noise is based on interference that occurs from the power supply and the voltage running through it. It doesn't effect the actual signal, it just adds more realism (I had a convo with a Waves rep about this). I'm not specifically sure about the SSL plugs, but my educated guess is it's the same thing.

Just last night on a mix I was tweaking the bass and there was an inactive ssl channel plug on. I activated it and the low end changed drastically and there was absolutely nothing going on in any of the eq/filter/comp/gate sections. Just an observation.

haha the exact same thing happened to me last night with a classical guitar. i just snapped the SSL E channel on the track and it immediately made the guitar sound better

It's strange because I've heard of people copying a track and putting the ssl on one track and flipping phase and getting just the 50 cycle hum. I'm gonna have to do some investigating for myself, because I was getting less bass, like some natural compression, saturation and roll off was occurring. It was very musical.

I use the Waves SSL plugin in my master chain with all settings at default. Just the plugin activated (with analog mode on) and it makes everything sound better.

someone on this forum explained that it's just raising the noisefloor instead of changing anything about the sound... can't find it.
