Fortress of Arrogance
For some reason I'll be sitting at the computer farting around on the net and this voice will come over the speakers saying "Quiet please", then there's thumping and cheering. It ounds like tennis. But why the fuck is this happening? There doesn't seem to be any program running for it to play, I'm not on the same website when it starts all the time, and it just seems to happen randomly. It's quite fucking freaky!
Anyone else had this - how do you stop it? I'm shitting my fucking pantaloons!

1) Run anti-virus and ad-aware checks
2) Check your what processes your running (bring up the list with ctrl-alt-del on winxp), check what they mean for example from here: http://www.liutilities.com/products/wintaskspro/processlibrary/
3) Don't use Explorer to surf the web.
4) Reboot (honestly, this is the best working solution to most computer problems. :D )
5) Give burnt offerings to the dark gods of computing.

Actually, yes I have had that happen. I was beside myself looking, and it took a couple times before I figuered it out. It was actually my aim buddy list. At the top of the buddy list is a little ad thingie. from time to time it runs short commercials. I dunno if you were running aim at the time, but that might be a possibility.

Yep, for the short period I used AIM it always used to scare the shit out of me when an unexpected voice said something and I had my speakers on pretty loud

I don't have AIM...I run soulseek quite a lot, perhaps it's related to that? What's the point in a fucking advert that doesn't show itself though? Iran adaware a couple of weeks ago and it cleard over 200 ads and spyware, so it shouldn't be that hopefully.
I'll check the processes next time it happens though cheers!

Adaware doesn't always get everything. It's best to run both Adaware and Spybot: Search and Destroy, as well as Spyware Blaster (all freeware). Adaware and Spybot S&D are both scanners, whilst Spyware Blaster employs measures that prevent (or at least make it much more difficult for) spyware to be installed in the first place.

I use this combination and rarely, if ever, suffer from any problems, *touchwood*
