Weird cubase problem

This is the weirdest problem with cubase I have had yet. I have recorded a bunch of tracks for a song a couple of weeks ago and all was fine. Today I opened my project and the bass track has crackles and pops in random locations which I could swear were not there when I recorded it. The pops are only on the bass track and they seem to be in the wav itself, so not a playback issue.
Any ideas?

That's what I thought first cause it sounded like those sort of pops but I have checked and it's correct sampling rate. Guess I have to take it and re-record the bass track. Crap
