It's not bad sounding. I'm listening on my headphones.

You might try using a Harmonic Exciter on the guitars?
This mix really reminds me of the For Today albums.

The guitar tracks aren't really that clear, but they gel with the mix really well.

Put some more reverb on that snare.

I think it's in your face but not very 3D so I only suggest some more room in the drums, maybe a couple instances of different subtles verbs. Also a boost in the 40-100 on bass but maybe you have to turn it down a little afterwards.

I perceive better IYF tracks when there's something behind in contrast (room, verbs, space)

i really like this. Snare sound is the only thing that lets the general mix vibe down a little. I'd go with a lower tuned sound with a little more resonance. The mix itself could be fixed instantly by just bringing up the guitars a little and the bass down. the guitars themselves are a little lacking in the midrange and could maybe benefit from some double tracking on the heavy parts with a brighter tone. it also sounds like you carved out a lot of the low end on the guitars, maybe push it back up a little to replace the low end void left by the bass reduction? just a thought. vocals are also a little dry sounding, some parallel compression maybe.

not that i know anything at all, but that's just what i would do within the first 5 minutes of mixing this. you are definately 90% there though, I really like it. It doesn't seem to not be hitting me in the face at all.

i really appriciate your words
thanks guys
i cant change the snare sound too much cause its comin out of the overheads way too much
and the snare snound in the OHS are so bad..
so that was the best i could do :(
but i will do waht you guys said about the "bringing up the G-tars and lowering the bass"
and" more room in the drums"

but im comparing it to actual metal commercial cds
and i dont know why, but mine dont sound as good . .

and people tell me that " your not going to get that professional sounds unless you have great gear "
which by the way is whore shit
im sure theres a way

but you really think this is legit legit?
or...?

How did you mic those overheads? I have always found that you can kill the snare presence in the OHs/room mics just by cutting the lows and low mids. It seems to give the cymbals more high end focus, thus allowing you to sit them lower in the mix, which in turn allows for more room in the mids for the guitars. The mega bonus is the sample replacement option. I just recorded my first band and the drummer insisted on using a 12x4 popcorn snare cranked to ear splitting levels, I managed to completely eradicate it from the overheads, and replaced it with a nice deep pearl Chad smith sample.

As for the 'commercial beefiness' I would say don't worry about it. It's something that can be manipulated a little in the mastering (to an extent)

oh their just stem from someone elses mix
but he seems to have a simil technique to me and how mic my drums
exept guitars
they sound like shit
i would re amp em
but my mesa is DYING for new tubes
sounds like my grandma singing through a distortion pedal
..its bad

but yea
if i did mice these i would actually position the overhead mics like this

i know the production on my "Overheads" is bad on this pic
but fuck it, and the pic doesnt show exactly where i would put up
im just showing the idea of the angle oh how it would point outward
or if i had a high ceiling, i would just have the mics go higher, and straignt down on the "hotspot on the cymbals.

make sense?
does that seem like a good way to go ?

(lower ceiling, angled as displayed on pic/higher ceiling, straight down?)

p.s.
i have no idea who that dude is...no clue :lol:

I always point my OH mics straight down and make them as symmetrical with the kit as possible.
Also roll off the OH mics at 500-600, it will take 90% of the snare out of them and will really clear up your mix.
