What do you mixdown to?

I'm rethinking my whole rig actually, so I want to ear a couple of opinion about what you guys use, and why...

Thanks

Question is more what chain do you use for print your mix;)
So what AD converter for going back to PT? Or what DTD (masterlink anymore, tascam, korg...etc)? Maybe tape?

Lasse for example going back to PT through his finalizer.
Actually I print back through digi legacy blue AD, but wondering why not add a rosetta 200/lavry/hedd to the chain. Or going to the DTD way...

Haha, sorry:lol:
Sometimes when you hang out for too long around big studio you forgot that no everyone around understand what you mean:cry::lol:

I don't know what hardware you got Mikael except the old Digis and the Prime buscompressor but there are so many things that are worth investing in before even thinking of invest in
that last bit of the chain. Better Da maybe? Im super happy with my SSL alphalink but don't know if they are allot better then the old blue Digis, probably not.
If i was to buy a masterbus compressor these days i would probably go for allot of color which actually adds something to the mix or even go the tape route, but i don't know if it is worth the hazzle haha. And if you're doing mainly metal then the color route might not be desirable for every project because color usually mean sacrificing some separation.

@Brett: that don't help me but it's a way for doing it;)

My biggest problem with printing back to PT is that you can't print back with a different resolution. 24/96 with a session at 24/44 for example.

@Christian: actually I haven't that many hardware toys but that will change really soon;) For the moment I mostly try gear for see what I like, what I didn't like, and what chain work with others...
But as I can say is you will see some unusual (not unusual for some guy) toys in my racks;)

Mix through A&H Zed-R16 with Drawmer 1968me on master bus.
Mix goes back into Logic through the AD section of my API A2D.
Really happy with the sound I'm getting.
I can also clip the A2D for level and it sounds great.

only in mastering, in the mixdwon it's going out of the Digi192 into the Smart C2 and back through the 192 into PT

the finalizer is only being used in mastering, it's connected trhough ADAT.

All tracking goes through the Apogee AD16x, during mixing, whenever I'm using outboard, it's going through the 192

Sound interesting but I would rather go with a clean unit than impart a sound that wouldn't work for some stuff (pop for example). But thanks for sharing I appreciate;)

i still find the masterlink's converters hard to beat for printing my mixes. @88.1

unless you have a lavry, or a maytek to go trough. or a burl...they're great. I've done two sessions this year printing to half inch (ampex)

I really consider the masterlink as an add for me but masterlink converter sound too hard to me. With an other converter on front end it's great (Apogee was the norm couple of years ago).

Call me crazy but I think 192 is good. Add to that the fact you can trim down input on it is a win situation for me (not many converter have this).

Anyway, thanks for all those input guys:headbang:

The A2D has 2 API pres and 2 channel AD.
The AD is clean and you can line straight into the converters.
Doing this gives a high quality clean conversion.
The A to D input on this pic.
