What does Saxon mean?

Well I'm not a historian, but some of this is pretty well-known stuff in Britain so heres my two-penneth.

The Saxons were a warrior race who came to England in about 450 AD some time after the Roman Empire retreated from the area and was eventually destroyed.

For quite a few hundred years the Saxons (or Anglo-Saxons as they became known) ruled over England.

The Saxons were eventually defeated and lost power in 1066. Quite a famous event in English history, the Battle of Hastings. The last Saxon king, King Harold, was killed at the battle when an arrow went straight through his eye.

At that point power passed to the Normans under King William the Conqueror.

I'm not a historian, this was just from general knowledge. There's probably pleanty more on the web if you can be bothered to seek it out.

Pronounced SAK-SON.

It means metal played loud to people who headbang, jump around and play air guitar.
Please do not confuse with O/D Saxon which means good metal played with a shit singer.

WILKS:

O/D Saxon which means good metal played BADLY with a shit singer.

Also, has anyone else got the album - A tribute to Saxon released in 2001?

Track list Band

The Eagle Has Landed Steel Prophet
Power And The Glory October 31
20,000 Feet Diary
Heavy Metal Thunder Agent Steel
Fire In The Sky Deceased
Set Me Free Black Earth
Dallas 1 P. M. Premonition
747 (Strangers In The Night) Tyrant
This Town Rocks Brazen
Motorcycle Man Abattoir
Rock N' Roll Gypsy Silent Shadows

All the bands seem to be from the California area, it's interesting but not good. Some strange interpretations.

Cailifornia... hmmm...USA bands doing a Saxon tribute?
Saxon can get 500-1000 at clubs in USA.
The tributes are nice but the play to even smaller markets.

Haven't got it, and haven't heard it either. I'd like to though, sounds quite interesting! Don't know why 'Set me free' is on there though, seeing as it is a Sweet song. Yeah I know Saxon done a version of it too, but it is still a Sweet song, and not a Saxon one.
