Did they dissapear of somthing like that? because I have heard nothing about a new album at all, and night at the opera was in 2001. It almost makes me think that they've broken up.

Um..... I think they are working on new material.... They did not disappear for sure because they've played a lot of shows since then lol. They are also going to tour the US early 2006 :-)

You don't seem to be familiar with BGs releasing pace

Somewhere Far Beyond 1992

Imaginations from the Other Side 1995

Nightfall in Middle-Earth 1998

A Night at the Opera 2002

They usually have 3 or 4 years between studio albums. Here's Hansi's report from January.

A Happy New Year to everyone! Though you have not heard a lot from us during the last months we have not been lazy at all. There are a lot of things going on at the moment. Just to mention a few: the Demons and Wizards production is making good progress and the same can be said about the songwriting for the next Blind Guardian album which is at a very important point.

André and I have completed 5 songs for the new album and 10 songs for the orchestral project. Yesterday, we had a meeting with Charlie Bauerfeind (who is going to produce both albums) during which we have set up a rough schedule for the next months. We definitely will start the production within the year and it won't take as much time to accomplish it as it did with "A Night at the Opera".

With regards to the next Demons and Wizards album I am happy to tell you that 5 songs have been mixed for it already and that there are 7 more to go. How many of them we are going to use for the regular album and how many we will use as bonus material I can ´t tell you right now. There are 11 Schaffer/Kürsch songs and one cover tune. We will be done with everything mid February. The album surely will be released in late spring, or early summer. I am very pleased with the songs and so is Jon. My favourite tune at the moment is called "Touched by the Crimson King". We have not spoken about an album title yet but have to make a decision rather soon. I will let you know.

After ANATO in 2002, we were treated to a double live album and their own freakin' festival in 2003 and a live DVD of said festival last year, so I'd say they've been alive and well ever since the last studio disc. :D

Right now, as was said they're working on a new album... should reach the end of the writing stages soon if I'm not mistaken. Also, there's an orchestral project in the works, and the new Demons & Wizards (Hansi & Jon Schaffer of Iced Earth) disc should be out in a few months.
Sorry for not reading the previous post...:erk:

OK...time to ask for some BG advice...

I have Nightfall and Somewhere Far Beyond, and like Nightfall better, of those two. What should I get next?

Yeah, ANATO was pretty bad until you put it in your CD player and hit 'Play'.

@Rose Immortal: I recommend Imaginations from the Other Side. It's got a great balance of speed and orchestration. Also, it contains the best (i.e., my favorite) BG song: AND THE STORY ENDS.

From there, I say you should get:

Battalions of Fear
Follow the Blind
Tales from the Twilight World
Tokyo Tales
A Past and Future Secret
Mr. Sandman (or Bright Eyes in Japan)
The Forgotten Tales
Mirror Mirror
And Then There Was Silence
A Night at the Opera
Live
The Bard's Song (In the Forest)

and

Demons and Wizards

Alright, gogo.

Imaginations from the Other fucking Side

I also really love Tales from the Twilight World...but Imaginations is closer in sound to NiME. ANatO is great too, for Punishment Divine and And then There Was Silence (my favorite BG song) alone.
