What happened?

It's not just that, we used to have so many posts in a day now hardly any. In the good old days the first page of a sub could be all new threads from just one day.

Depends what you mean by 'the good old days'. For me those were before the forum had any sub-categories at all. In the early 00s the traffic was fairly sparse, but the content was ace and Andy was a regular. During the mid-00s there was a fairly large influx of traffic, enough to keep discussions regular. Lots of active members. This current decade, in my eyes at least, has just seen the community gradually going to turd. Experienced regulars are dropping off, and it's become lurker-dominant.

I think it's partly due to us already having covered just about everything you can cover theoretically. It's essentially just a database which you search through, rather than take active part in. The only thing that's really changing is the gear. The techniques are more or less timeless, and have been talked about to death already.

Pretty much it in a nut shell.

I still lurk around every now and then, but to be honest, I don't see that many of the old regulars posting here anymore, and the topics discussed seem to have gone from actual studio work (which I still greatly enjoy discussing) quite a bit to rather boring chatter about this and that software and sample pack and amp. It's understandable, though, but quite frankly, not very exciting or inspiring.

I'm still very glad to see a couple of the old-timers working in real studios, micing drum kits, producing bands and making well for themselves!

I noticed the same lately. I'm part of the mid-00s era, when I joined it was very active and Andy was still posting here and there. I remember I was addicted to the forum and could spend a full day here because there were so many posts, still mostly relevant.

Yeah, same here, I don't get online here nearly as often as I used to. For a while I would literally be refreshing the forum for hours on end. I guess some of us have more of a life now, for better or worse

I too used to refresh the forum every fifteen minutes. Now every time I see a new thread it's just Plendakor or whatever his name is. I think a lot of the interesting people I used to enjoy reading posts from are spending less time on the forum and more time actually recording bands/living their lives. It's a bummer but it happens I guess. I just try to follow the cool sneapsters via their bands or studio pages or whatever. :/

I guess the question is how do we get people posting more instead of lurking? Like Ermz said a lot of technique type stuff has been hashed and rehashed so gear is kind of the only topic that seems to come up on a regular basis and to me personally that is tiring. (It's not all about the gear right?)

Glad this topic came up. I still visit daily but I post way less than I used to, maybe a couple times a month. We had a Nitro sighting a little while back. I am still waiting for Ether for Breakfast to return. There are a few other guys I miss and the content isn't what it used to be but overall I am just happy this forum is still here.

I wish Andy would post here again just to let us know what he is up to.

Yeah I guess it has kind of done its cycle for the time being, especially with Andy not about much. Most stuff has been done to death, I'm in a bit of a musical rut lately and cant seem to get excited about anything new. Must be what happens when you hit 28? I still lurk but don't see much going on so the net result is checking in less. Good to see you guys still around!

P.S My axe fx still slays your kemper!!!!!
