What if Steven Wilson produced Katatonia?

I just hate how Steve's influence is waaaaay to obvious on the Opeth albums he produced.
A producer's input should be SUBTLE, but Steve destroyed everything I loved about Opeth.
blackwater park is their best record and steve produced that. Blackwater, ghost and still life are their best releases although steve only produced one of those.

I don't like korn at all infact I despise them but their best record is definitely life is peachy

Which is yet another opinion.
Just like in my opinion Morningrise will never ever be topped
opinion yes but don't disregard the fact that the song structures aren't by any means good on morningrise or orchid for that matter.

true, morningrise and orchid have this terrible stop start feel to them. Orchid has the better production, morningrise's production is like a tin can. Either way, there is no way Steven wilson couldve ruined Opeth. On the contrary they wouldve been totally fucked without him on deliverance and damnation, as he was their saviour that actually helped the record to be finished. He wasnt to fault for deliverance being a boring and repetive album, that was soley opeths fault because they were rushed and the sound was so forced. im not a fan of steven wilson either way, even tho he is a pretty fuckin good producer, i just dont like it. I think it would sound interesting with katatonia. I dont think it could harm to try either. as they could do alot worse.

oh ghost reveries sounds so overproduced and forced.... deliverance repetitive, damnation tries to be porcupine tree....Im not sure steven wilson is to blame for this.... still those are good albums...

morningrise and orchid both have this natural flow and feeling... so improvised... filled with emotion, desolate lyrics and big Camel influences...
MAYH is my favorite opeth album tho.....
production sucked maybe, but what record had a BIG production back then??

VIVA la porcupine tree

Well for a start, GR had nothing to do with steven wilson, i thought mike n the guys had lost it on deliverance. But GR showed me that it was most definatley a step up. I fail to hear any camel influence on the first two albums, but on MAYH and Still life i can definatley hear it. My arms is definatley my favourite by Opeth.

edit: Damnation sounds nothing like porcupine tree lol.
