what is needed for an overseas band to come record in the U.S.?

I have a couple of bands from Australia interested in flying over here to record. What exactly would they need to do this? Just passports? They wouldn't need work permits since they aren't getting paid anything, but what about a visa? I'm not even sure what those are for.

if I'm not mistaken australian passports are just like euro ones in that the stamp they receive at POE is essentially the visa and is good for up to 3 months stay here. As you said they're not getting paid anything, in fact the opposite so as long as they can finish their tracking in 3 months p) you, and they, should be good to go
