What metal songs have you listened to that have completely blown your mind? Songs so epic, technical, atmospheric, intense, METAL, whatever, that they demand your rapt attention and leaving you thinking about them for minutes or hours afterward? This happens only once when listening to a certain song, but I find it to be the most rewarding experience in music listening. It's when music ceases to be music and becomes...an experience, or something.
Here are the songs that have done it for me:
Iron Maiden - Seventh Son of a Seventh Son
Dream Theater - Learning to Live
Arcturus - Hibernation Sickness Complete
Arcturus - Demon Painter
Iron Maiden - The Longest Day
Dream Theater - Octavarium
Dream Theater - A Change of Seasons (Live 9/4/93)
Dream Theater - Trial of Tears
Yes - Close to the Edge
Symphony X - The Odyssey
Megadeth - Holy Wars...The Punishment Due
Dream Theater - The Ministry of Lost Souls (their long songs tend to do this a lot)
Iron Maiden - The Legacy (Maiden's, too)
Iron Maiden - Hallowed Be Thy Name
Judas Priest - Exciter
Arcturus - Fall of Man
Symphony X - The Accolade
Therion - Schwarzalbenheim
Black Sabbath - Lonely is the Word
Borknagar - The Eye of Oden
Iced Earth - The Phantom Opera Ghost
