What mixing resources would you recommend?

I've been trying to learn to record and mix for a few years now as a hobby and I don't really feel like my mixes are getting any closer to what I would consider a final polished product. I've tried to digest everything online that I can find; forum posts, youtube videos, and articles, but i'm still not seeing better results with what I've been able to find.

I'm completely open to anything at this point. What resources would you recommend to someone who's trying to learn to mix metal music?

Caffeine, a strong will to live, and uTorrent. Freeware will not get you where you want to go, unfortunately.
