children are a lot of fun. only problem is, guys who enjoy playing with kids are automatically assumed to be pedophiles by a lot of people. fuck that. i have a great time just watching how uninhibited kids are... so fucking depressing how much shit you know society's going to heap on them over the years until they end up as jaded and cynical as us

aint' that the truth.

Children are cool up til the age of 13. Then it becomes a matter of watching them turn into little runts that only care about impressing other little runts.

imo we have to look at why kids end up valuing other people's opinions around the age of adolesence

i don't buy that that's just "how it is"

I'm not striving for mediocrity, i just can't be bothered to try and impress/compete with others, I'll do what I do cause I want to and compete with myself only. Fuck your(not your's specifically) opinion.

yea, and calling yourself mediocre is still one of the most limiting things you can do IF you actually believe yourself. but you sound like you don't, you have your own priorities and are working towards them. that only makes you mediocre at following the trends. keep up the good work, andrew

striving for mediocrity is possibly the worst thing anyone could ever do

Indeed. And this is what most teenagers do. They see their peers and feel the need to validate themselves through them. Individualism is lost in a barren competition of materialism. The one's who are not striving to achieve validity, are the ones who have already taken the first step in surpassing it.

Yeah, I don't know if I believe myself or not, in a way, I don't really care. I'll compete with myself, if you like what comes out, great, if not, great.

what? it isn't. seeking your own goals is mediocrity only in the eyes of those who still seek to validate themselves through others. that's all i meant

haha, so I am mediocre... to the sheep/chattel/shark-chum... as long as I'm happy with what I am, I don't care. :p If i'm not happy, i'll go fix the problem as much as I can or just accept and deal with it.

You need to realize that sometimes people reply to posts that came just before yours due to you clicking post button like 1 second before me

i don't see how clearing it up just in case you WERE responding to me is going to cause any problems so why not?

That made absolutely no sense.

Say my goal is to become a millionaire. I go on to make my first million. Would that be considered mediocrity even if I was the type of person who needed people to validate that goal? By saying, "Woo man way to go!"? Nay, the completion of the goal cancels out the necessity for validation by default.

@RiA -- I think he means going about things in the non-standard way, and not caring about following the "goals" that society expects of you "h0t wife, expensive boats cars house jewlery clothes, big house, high ranking high income job, etc"

Edit - Pandas>Fag Emo's

What I meant was that people who see validation through others as an end towards which they work often judge those who work towards their own personal goals. For example, to a hardcore capitalist yuppie business guy, the life of an independent DIY type musician might look kind of ridiculous because of the differences in motivation there.

there's also nothing preventing people's personal goals from overlapping with the current ideals. (i.e. someone who pursues popular goals as if seeking validation, but actually just happens to want the things other people value)

i'm probably making no sense again, but it makes perfect sense in my head o_O
