I'm looking for a good decent heavy as fucken hell guitar pickup.
I play death metal and something with huge bass and sustain and
great palm mute is what i'm looking for.
To be specific, kinda like the sound of old school arch enemy(the first two albums) or carcass.

As far as I know Arch Enemy didn't use EMG's, but an 81 would work well. You could also try A Dimarzio X2N, Kent Armstrong Motherbucker, Seymour Duncan Distortion, Invader or Full Shred. You could try the Bare Knuckle Pickups Warpig aswell, sounds just like what you want. More info at www.bareknucklepickups.com , seymourduncan.com , or dimarzio.com .

its all in the eq ..dont worry bout ur pickup. if u have a $300 guitar is it worth putting a $100 pick up? its like putting $3000 rims on a honda

I'd say yes. If the $100 pickup makes the $300 guitar sound like a $400 guitar (or better), it's worth it.

It's not all in the EQ. If you have sucky pickups that sound like mud (like the stock Jackson pups in my RRX), no EQ is going to take that away. Believe me, I tried. I now run it on EMGs, and the guitar kicks ass.

Air nortons. . .Superdistortion, invaders, dimbuckers, fuck even a classic gibson 57 will work nice, but the 85 would do better than the 81

I play in two death metal bands, i have a custom RAN which has an EMG81. They really do crank it out some. The sound is great, very tight, sounds big...good shit :) I'd definately recommend an 81, (not to expensive either)

Even a good sounding pickup that isn't brutal will sound better than a shitty one, even for brutal death.

I had a guitar (my sl2gx which I recently sold) had a JB in the bridge, and it got some pretty decent death metal tone, but just wasn't brutal enough for me... that's why I prefer the emg 85 over the 81, more dark, more distortion, and not such a sterile eq.

So I don't know shit, huh? Well, it must be you who's talking out of your ass then. And may I ask why the RRX wouldn't be a real guitar? I've owned about a dozen of guitars over the years, and I've played about every brand I've been able to get my paws on. Come back and lecture me about guitar pickups when you've played the guitar for 15 years, child.

seriously bro, sunbane knows more of what hes talkin about than most of the people here. just about everything he says is true, and is good advice.

dont wanna sound like im suckin your dick or anything tho hahaha. :Spin:

people like that piss me off tho, i bet hes one of those kids whos played for like a year or 2, bought a really expensive guitar that he made his mom pay for mostly, and then started thinkin he was soo good, when in reality he doenst know shit about the instrument, or music (theory, technique, etc.)

sunbane u dont know shit..u cant even consider an rrx a real guitar..wtf?
Man, Sunbane has been on this forum for years posting good info about just about aything related to music. He usually says everything i would in a post as is, leaving me no room to speak.
if you have a different opinion, ok, but its not fucking cool to go around saying anyone doesn't know shit, we're here to help each other be better musicians, not to bash each other
and the rrx is a badass guitar, at least mine and all the ones I have played kick ass, for me.
anyway, in lite of the aforementioned animosity: happy shredding to all

I'm kinda wondering here, whether a Dimarzio Evolution (Bridge) and Humbucker From Hell (Neck) would work well in my acrylic guitar. The acrylic has a clean, thick, bassy tone with good midrange but I'm looking for more highs and mids for lead; I do not want anything that's going to boost the bass very much. From looking at the specs' for both pickups, it seems they are a good choice but I'd like some opinions from other guitarists first.

Thanks guys,

-Peter
