haggis is also the epitome of one of the stupidest things about nationalism, where a people can get all defensive about something that's very obviously objectively repulsive and championing it as representative of their culture and an object of pride, etc. instead of shame.

this doesn't just extend to the food world. see: cowboys (american culture) among other things.

every culture has one food / trend or another that is so annoying and ridiculous it could make a person want to slit their wrists. let's face it.

yes, and some are worse/more egregious than others. and the degree to which cultures defend them can be worse/more egregious in some than others. haggis is really high on both of those axes.

the worst is when people are like "hey this food is good BECAUSE my people were oppressed and had to make do with what they had!"

sometimes people have to drink urine and eat grass to survive but that doesn't make the food good. see: chitlins.

on the flip side, though, sometimes a food that was commonly considered shitty can be discovered as good because it was given to people as a "bottom of the barrell" food. see: ROBISTARE (aka lobster)

this cultural crap happens with all sorts of things. the continuation of useless/annoying languages for the sake of 'preservation' and so on. these things also always seem to come with a heartwarming story of "OVERCOMING THE ODDS" which, upon research, isn't true.
