Whats the best noise gate VSt?

i think most people learning how to use basic plugins well should start with the reaper plugins. They work, they aren't full of nasty surprises and they introduce the basic concepts.

Ok, there is one nasty surprise. The auto-makeup on reacomp can be horrible sounding on some sources

The one I like most for playing guitar is the boss (white pedal) noise gate emulation in Guitar Rig. But I prefer cleaning the tracks manually in my recordings.

And yes, Revalver's gate is useless.

I use the "Green Gate" freeware VST made by Patrick Wurr. Now is avaliable inside the Green Bundle, you can find it in VSTplanet, bundle section.

I always end up throwing my Boss NS-2 before my interface when doing DI's, but usually end up chopping manually if I want that super-tight start/stop sound (guitars).

The best gate is region automation. I usually place a Trim plugin on the track and automate the gain.

If I am too lazy to do that, the SSL style gates are the best I know. Waves SSL Channel / UAD SSL / Duende will do that in the plugin world.

I think green gate is probably the best for putting in a vst guitar chain, acts more like a pedal through an amp than most gates.

The best noise gate is to manually cut and fade every part. If I'd have to pick a plugin: Sony Oxford Dynamics Gate.
