Ever wonder if bands are ashamed of their fans? Case in point, I'm sure everyone knows about the theatrics of the Opeth forum here at UM. I was browing forums the other day and noticed that, by request of the band themselves, the Off-topic Bizarro Thing was removed from the Opeth forum and (dis)placed elsewhere. I used to frequent that nightmare, so I thought that was pretty funny.

I hope if I ever make it big I'm not ashamed of my fans.

Just watch the Fans Rule (I believe that's what it's called) section on the Slayer dvd. Holy fuck... I can't believe that they put that shit on an official band release. The people they interview are soooooo stupid. I've showed it to several people and it's always a laugh riot.

I think what made that Off Topic Bizzaro thing even more bizzare was all the crying going on. "how could this happen""I feel like I don't have a home" etc etc :Smug: It's just a forum, go invade another forum, but not this one. ;)

They now have a Seriously Off Topic forum so they're happy again. :D Their forum is always great for a laugh.

What kind of lunacy have you witnessed at the Opeth forum?

Amon Amarth are a good example of a band that have publicly denounced some of their fans.

Goatse, and lots of it. :ill:

That and pretty much just weird, pointless threads. I still go in there some Friday afternoons when I have no work to do, just out of boredom. I used to post in there frequently until the "majority rule" political mentality took over. :bah:

By the way, if you do'nt know what that is, consider yourself lucky, and DON'T do a search on it. Awful, awful stuff.

Opeth forum:
"OMG OMG GOM!!! GOMG!!! I can't glieave how g00d Opetha is!!!!!!"

Opeth Off-topic:
"OMSDGMOSMDS DGOSADLOLZOZLOALXOLZOFZLFALDSK"

My one fond memory is that somebody posted a thread about how to make a miniature replica of the Starship Enterprise using nothing but a 3.5" floppy disc... and I made one and it's still sitting on my desk at work. [/dork]

And here it is: http://chaz6.com/enterprise/ I never felt so extremely giddy and pathetic at the same time when mine was complete.

Thats sad to hear about the Opeth forum. I haven't been here long enough to experience that first hand, but it sounds bad. Opeth is a band to me, that influenced forever the way I feel about music and what it really is. I assume the people in that forum haven't actually listened to the music because to do so, you would likely need to have some level of intelligence. Oh well, I guess thats a fair enough amount of ranting for one afternoon.

Thank you for illustrating better than our words ever could precisely what is wrong with Opeth fanboys and their forum.

I promptly changed the "this" in my post to "that" realizing that it probably looked like I was insulting the members of Royal Carnage. Maybe I should read my posts before I post them. :tickled:
Oops! :p

You don't know how close you were to being flamed. :tickled:
Too late! Heh.

Hehe, whoops. :D

The intelligence level in there was average to high, it was the maturity level that was rock bottom. Actually, the off-topic was entertaining, the regular Opeth forum was the really lame one, seemed like 4 year olds with underdeveloped speech patterns were talking in there.

Anybody know a good place to host images? I hate uploading all mine to a public website then linking from there. Maybe I'll just do the $15 thing for UM.com...

No - what was that in response to? The release of St Anger?
The old napster thing, and I recall they are alledged to have mouthed off about their old school long haired fans round about the same time.
