yeah weird question, people edit using their daw, clipping? not so much, unless i've missed something major.
as to when you would cut/edit DI's? when they aren't as tight as you'd like them to be

NEVER CLIP! EVER!

I have on occasion limited my DI tracks when reamping because the guitarist hasn't dug in enough during tracking, but I never clip my DI tracks when recording.

You clip hair like you cut hair. Not DI's.
