"we had to post on USENET GROUPS with no smiley options and we signed our names to each post and used shell accounts to access our posts which sometimes didn't show up for days! DAYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Going nuts over King's Quest when I was like seven or eight. Discovering my first MUDs in fifth grade and spending the next FOUR years trying to wake up every morning at 4:30am just so I could MUD some before the school day.
Last childhood computer game memory. Signing up for Ultima Online when it first came out and loving it for a year and a half. Shortly after (and actually oddly enough somewhat because of it) I found out that I could date girls and wanted to play guitar/listen to music so the computer game world left me.
Oregon trail was definitely my childhood game. I would always try to kill off everyone as quickly as possible, doing things like fording rivers that were way to deep and getting messages like, "you lost 25 pounds of food, three oxen, a box of bullets, and little jimmy." Then after everyone was dead you got to write funny messages on the tombstone.
Seems like it was yesterday when 200 mhz was enough for anybody and mp3 trading was the exclusive domain of IRC addicts...somebody shoot me before I get any more nostalgic for 1997.
