I think there are some base structural similarities to dubstep and metal. The way the newer, more aggressive dubstep is danced to is pretty much like what you see on metal gigs as well. I'm particularily talking about nu metal, hardcore, crabcore and the kind.
When I found dubstep, it was new, fresh, aggressive in ways I haven't ever heard before, so I was instantly hooked. Even these days it's the kind of music that's "almost always good".
Right now, the genre is evolving in huge steps. To be honest, I don't really like what dubstep
was that much, I like what it is right now and is becoming. Skrillex and such aren't really even dubstep anymore, as it has about as much common to dubstep as it has to the other genres it's taking its influences from.
Noboby has really invented a proper name for the new subgenre either... Only one I've heard is "brostep" which is to mock the genre and sounds incredibly retarded to begin with.
drum 'n bass is awesome music as well but a lot of it tends to lack balls.
