WHERE'S THE "CRUNCH"??

MANTICORA WILL SLAY YOUR EARDRUMS AND BREAK YOUR NECKS.

There. I said it. You have all been warned.

And I echo Glenn's comments. The further back in their catalog, the more raw and brutally honest their sound gets. The first two albums have a very similar flavor with their riffs and tempos and vocal melodies. The latter two are extremely fast, well-polished production, lots of post-production and extra sounds and layers and thickness added to the compositions, and lotsa multitracked voicing. But between the two halves, you still have the same band. It's quite a jump between 2 and 3, but it makes sense when I read their band bio and how things have changed for them. Right now, I've been spinning the first two albums over and over for the last week. Next week, I'll put the last two back to back and just absorb them again. Right now, I need the old-school fix from them. Less layering, less sound effects, less keyboards, more raw metal riffage and wrist-snapping guitar playing. Next week, audio perfection, blistering speed and genius song composition.

I think PC69 is going to be the energy boost of the weekend, not that we'll be low on energy, but I just think with their refreshing sound and time slot, they'll just take this shit to a new level before the big boys come up.
I think you just may be right. I have a feeling some may not be expecting too much outta these guys, and some good ol' fun Melodic Hard Rock may be just what the doctor ordered in the middle of day two.

I agree! Pink Cream is so different from the rest of the bands. They're going to stand out like a sore thumb, in a good way! I'm looking forward to PC's set! :hotjump:

I dont think there will be any band that wont have at least one song that gets the whole place moving.

Manticora is going to rock shit though!!! My goal is to have whiplash by the end of the first song!! \m/

Heh. In that case...

WINGER for PP VII!!!! :muahaha:

If you haven't seen them live, Angra will absolutely own you! The energy in their performance is totally intense! In addition, I agree that Manticora will whup all sorts of ass. The more I think about it, the more I have a feeling that Conception will come across heavier live, too. As for Winger, I'm all for seeing them play a club tour. What ever happened to that new album they were supposed to make?

Stay metal. Never rust.

Actually, if you want an 80s band in Progpower, Racer X would probably be the best choice. Not too huge a following, but probably well known and loved by the Progpower crowd.

mtlheart, I was thinking more along the lines of an Extreme re-union and them performing Pornograffitti in its entirity! If you don't like that 80's album, then you don't like rock at all!

Well, I own that album, though it's hardly the greatest thing from the 80's by any means. Same for Winger's "Pull." Own it, like it, seen the tour, don't think they belong at ProgPower. PC69 either for that matter.

However, if Glenn is again inclined to bring in 80's style bands, then they should at least be the ones with some real "Crunch." Bands like Pretty maids, Helix, Kick Axe, MSG, Babylon A.D., and Skid Row are still around. They're all far harder rocking than your typical Winger, Warrant, Poison.

I'd personally rather ProgPower stick to it's roots and name.

Yes, variety is over-rated. :)
It's not that variety is over-rated, but typical 80's bands that are still around do tour. For example this year's Rock Never Stops Tour with Cinderella, Ratt, Quiet Riot, and Firehouse. Poison usually brings about 4 bands out with them when they tour: Dokken, Great White, Winger, Faster Pussycat, Ratt to name a few.
It's just much easier to find concerts in that genre than the European Only touring bands typically featured at ProgPower. Especially in the Southern US as demonstrated by the recent HammerFall/Edguy and Sonata Arctica date announcements.

Yes, but PC 69 isn't one of those 80's bands, nor do they tour here. They don't fall into the prog or power category, so they could be considered this year's oddball band...or one of them. :)

I think it is good to have bands that don't fall into those strict prog/power genres, or else it would all start to sound samey after 2 days. While I am not a fan of most of the bands on this year's line-up, I do think it is a very diverse one, with bands like Orphaned Land - Therion - PC 69, which is a good thing. Then you have your more traditional prog - CMax, and your more traditional power - Strato.

...and then there's Conception...
