Where's the huge bass response?

So today I've plugged in my old 2.1 speakers and there was like 1/3 of the bass response of what they used to be. wtf? The subwoofer still hits but not that hard as it did. They were in the packages all this time.

no knobs except overall volume knob.

Did you get accustomed to some other speaker set and now they just sound different in comparison? Or is there some phase cancellation going on? I'm guessing it's pre-wired so there isn't an option to hook it up backwards.

Are the connections 1/4" jacks or XLR or lead wires? You may have the leads reversed.

There are about 1 million possible reasons and without checking the actual hardware, we can only guess.
