i recognize that a lot of work went into it and that it is pretty original and well-executed but i'm just not interested enough in the concept, the style, or the general aura that the music emanates to really get into it and/or care a lot

i think avant-garde bm was better when it was lugubrum, ved buens ende, fleurety and ulver

Since I can occasionally find moments of value in DsO's music and none in Portal, I'll say Portal. However, that presumes I actually don't understand them. I'm tempted to argue that I understand them perfectly and that they're just the pure crap I believe them to be. I have serious doubts that if Portal was just four guys in jeans and t-shirts, that we'd even be having this conversation.
