I am thinking to move my monitors off my desk because the desk is not very wide and i don't get much of a stereo image plus i would like to decouple them from the desk.
So i was thinking that because i dont have any money for proper stands i would make some from wood(material i already have in my garage). Put spikes on the bottom to isolate them from the floor and add slate slabs on top to further decouple the monitor from the stand....
what do you think? would this be worth the effort? i am thinking it would be better than leaving the monitors on the desk where they are at the moment.:loco:

cool. yes i should be able to decouple the speaker reasonably well. I won't be able to sand fill the legs because they will be 2x2 wood so not hollow ie. not fillable.
I will attempt to build something this weekend. I'll post some pics for a laugh.

Each leg is 5x5 timber so the stands are very solid. The feet will have spikes and the slate slabs will sit on top. They are 1.2M tall which seems pretty tall? But that will line the monitors up with my ears so i guess that is correct.

I sprayed em black \m/ of course...

I will post again when I have the monitors setting on them.

Looks like a lot of vibration to me, but someone who knows more about these things can lighten things up. You'll need mopads between the stands and the monitors, maybe even something more to decouple. Mopads and stuff like that lift the monitors higher up, so hopefully you have some slack in your chair to get it a bit higher still.

They look great nevertheless. :)

Finally got the stands in situ and with the spikes and the slate blocks the bass tightened up significantly. Better listening position also. Basically cost me nothing to make ..other than my time :)
