This is kind of an anal question - granted - but can anyone make out what is being said during this part?

I have no means of isolating the whispers from the surrounding music, so it's kind of hard for me, but it sounds like it's being played in reverse. I'm not sure though...

Any ideas?

Yeah, but it looks cool ;) Even if the same thing is in the inlet...

Anyways, I think he may be just whispering the verse lyrics...

...or the conjuration to call satan into your room if you read it at midnight by candles ;)

wait what whispers are we talking about here? I thought he meant the main (non growling ones), i.e. the ones that go like "majesty....faithful me....etc."
is there another whispering part? I haven't heard this song in a while.

Near the end... there's these little whispers before the final scream and they sound all dark and devilish. At one part I do hear the words satan, but then after a bit they get louder and I hear a little girl? Maybe she's whispering the lords prayer?

I just tried editing them in Audition by reversing them, attempting to raise the vocal frequencies, lowering the pitch, slowing it down, panning the channels, and I have come to the conclusion that I have no bloody clue what they're saying.

Thanks for the effor though.

I actually found out what he whispers and it's something like:

'Shazaam kazaam, shu shu shu, clearasil, magneduda oblongata, I'm just whispering random shit to make the guys at the forum strain their ears, blah blah blah...'

The structure of the grand conjuration is pretty simple, but I love the song because of the effects. Its the only Opeth song to really have 'sound effects'...like the bongo drums or whatever, the whisper chants, the banshee type howls....all of it together sounds like old time african-american voodoo. Like that movie skeleton key (i think thats the name of it...). I wish heir appearant had some effects like this but different...

I agree.
If it was that important, it would've been out in the front of the mix like "Hessian Peel".
