As a side-note, Adam Curry (of MTV and now podcasting fame, oddly enough) was also a regular on RockNet... I'd always figured that he was a stuck-up pretty boy, but it turns out that he's a super cool, down-to-earth guy. Surprise, surprise!

He is indeed. I used to call his Apple-based BBS when he had it running out of his house in Verona, NJ. This was well before the Web was big; in fact, he registered mtv.com and used it as a domain long before the cirporate suits had a clue it would be valuable.

He was always a metalhead and I'll never forget the gleam in his eye when he announced "By the way, you Queensryche fans, "Eyes of a Stranger" didn't quite make the countdown tonight, but it was really close. Keep up the good work." As one of the fans who was calling in every day for it, I was pleased. The following day, it placed on the countdown.

Hell, anyone who quit his job at MTV in disgust because they were playing stupid longer-form shows instead of music videos is cool in my book. It's a shame his resignation 'speech' never made it to the airwaves.

Frank Marino (Frank Marino & Mahogany Rush). I guess that's one for the over 40 crowd. In 1982, I worked at this college radio station. After the show, a fellow DJ and I went backstage to interview Frank. Frank was tired, but was a sport and submitted to our interview. Thirty minutes into the interview, we noticed the batteries had died in our tape recorder. We just knew Frank was going to give us the boot. Instead, Frank said, "no problem, we'll use my recorder!" and started over.

Very cool guy.
