sup everybody.....just got the "calculating infinity" cd.o_O
I heard these guys went to Berkely to study music, and by these timings and chromatic scales, i'd believe it. Feel free to throw in your own thoughts on Dillinger

Dillinger is one of the best bands in the world.

I've seen them 7 times this year, and I hope I can see them some more. They are the most insane, violent, and chaotic live band I have ever seen. Plus, they play their songs perfectly, which is a feat in of itself...and it's even more impressive when they are dodging thrown drums and setting their own amps on fire.

As for Berkley, I don't know if that's true...I've certainly never heard that before. You should pick up their "Irony Is A Dead Scene" EP...it's fucking awesome.

yeah dude...i saw em at Furnace Fest in alabama last year, and they set a MESA CAB on fire and threw it out into the pit....it was completely torn apart in seconds. I wish I would have actually known some of their material when I saw them, cause i probably would have enjoyed it more

:D I was there up in the front, and I still have the wheel that I tore off the cab. FF was a great show...they're a little more scary when it's in a really small club, though...that was definitely the largest venue I've seen them play.

Regardless, that was one of the best perfomances I've ever seen them give. I'm glad you saw it, too.

The Dillinger Escape Plan is probally the cream of the crop when it comes to the hardcore/mathcore scene. Their live show is unmatched as far as intensity goes....This one person I used to go to school with went to a Dillinger Escape Plan show a few years back and left the venue in an ambulance the third song in due to a wound to the head (which resulted in stitches) from their crazy guitar throwing/swinging. I highly recommend you see this band live, they never dissapoint.

Oh, and I also suggest you that check out their album, "Irony is a Dead Scene", which features Mike Patton on vocals.

I know they're talented. But I can't find much to truly love in their music. As far as the hardcore thing goes, they're what I'd choose to listen to. But I hate hardcore.
I'd suggest giving it time...I used to listen to them just because I loved how fast they could play...but I never really enjoyed their songs. After a few months, though, I kept coming back for more. Eventually, I came to fucking love their material...the actual songwriting is great, especially if it isn't instantly apparent.

If you haven't heard it, listen to their new stuff. It's much more "musical" and perhaps will grab you more.

I saw DEP with Candiria a bout three years ago in Poughkeepsie NY and DEP blew my mind..I like Cacluating Infinity alot..The collabaration with Mike Patton was a little dissapointing but I can't wait to hear some new DEP, should be sick and technical..

Well, if you didn't like the Patton shit, I'm afraid you won't like their new stuff. It's definitely simpler...they're moving away from trying to be all crazy technical (because they said they've already proven that they can play incredibly fast) and instead are focusing more on writing powerful songs. I love the new shit (at least what I've heard live), but it definitely sounds more like the Patton stuff than it does Calculating Infinity.

@Mr. Niel: The DVD I mentioned is going to be of the Furnace Fest concert in August 2002. It was a 3-day fest that Dillinger played at, and they will be one of the many performers featured on the DVD. Go to www.3bstudios.net for more info.

I could never really get into their albums - although I appreciate their originality and talent and absolutely love the EP they did with Mike Patton. And the live performance I witnessed two years ago was stunning (it was on an alternative/rock/mainstream-metal festival, you can imagine that the crowd was surprised :D )
