who likes Dillinger?

love this band, seen them live a few times. Deserve all the recognition they're getting these days. Took me a long long time to get into them, but what's so great about their music is that every time I listen to them I always find something new that I never noticed before.

Their less heavy parts are brilliant too, just check out the instrumentals they've done, and that ambient part in 'When Good Dogs..', amazing. I'm waiting for the future where most of their material will be like this and everyone will hate them for selling out :).

Being heavily into the hardcore/metalcore/noisecore scene myself, I've heard numerous bands that do it better than Dillinger. They are good at what they do, but in comparison to other bands of their ilk, they are simply overshadowed.

great Dreamlord, name some bands, please! :)
No prob.

Keep in mind some of these bands aren't "math-metal" as some like to call it. Some bands within the hardcore/metalcore scene that I feel are worth your time, but not necessarily better than Dillinger:

Botch - One of my favorites. Easily one of the more inovative bands in the scene. Makes Dillinger look about as innovative as another Gothenburg band.

Cave In - of course I'm only talking about their first two albums 'Beyond hypothermia' and 'Until Your Heart Stops'. The space rock that came after is pure camel crap.

Burnt by the Sun - They are good, but not as innovative as Dillinger. BbtS is more grinding though.

Coalesce - Basically the grand-fathers of the "noisecore" scene. Their stuff is fantastic. A good place to start is '0:12 Revolution....'

Converge - Probably the most brutal band in the scene today. I can only take them in doses, but they blow Dillinger outta there.

Deadguy - Another early band in the scene. Violent, angry, and creative.

Drowningman - Not near as chaotic as Dillinger. Much more melody in the music. 'Rock 'N Roll Killing Machine' is essential.

hopesfall - Not really comparable to Dillinger, but still worth your time. Emo mixed with hardcore.

Human Remains - Another early contender. Members went on to form Deadguy and Burnt by the Sun

Keelhaul - It's good, but not essential. Much slower and not nearly as nuts.

Knut - Tasty stuff here. If you like Dillinger, you'll like Knut

Kiss It Goodbye - Another one of my faves. Similar to Deadguy.

Some other bands related to the scenes mentioned above worth investigating are:

Neurosis
Today is the Day
Old Man Gloom
Isis
Mastodon
Cult of Luna
The Great Deceiver

and to a lesser extent...

Shadows Fall
Killswitch Engage
Fugazi
Life of Agony (old)
dayinthelife...

You say many bands do it better than dillinger, but hardly any of these bands sound anything like dillinger (as you did state). Some of the bands mentioned are amazing though, I'll give you that.

Some of them don't sound anything like DEP, but I was just recommending some bands within the same realm that listeners may like.

As for bands that are comparable to DEP that do it better- Botch, Converge, Knut, and to an extent- Deadguy, Kiss It Goodbye, Coalesce and Drowningman

Botch rules, but Dillinger is better.

BBTS is boring as shit.

Converge rules.

Hopesfall is gay.

Isis, Mastodon, Cult of Luna, early Cave In, Drowningman, etc. all rule.

I mostly agree with your tastes, dude...but to say that DEP is overshadowed by a lot of these bands is wrong. Botch may have come first, but IMO they NEVER did anything as good as "Irony..."

As much as I hate the word "opinion" (because of it's overuse as a debate stopper), I guess that's what it comes down to. 'Irony...' is so overrated is ridiculous. THe only reason it's regarded so highly is because of Mike patton, who is overrated himself. Dillinger never incorporated Gregorian Chant in any of their songs, as far as I know anyway. And they never recorded anything like "Afghamistam".
BBTS is boring as shit.
I agree somewhat. There is no way in hell they even compare to DEP in skill or anything for that matter. Call them a guilty pleasure I guess.
Converge rules.

:) :Spin:
Hopesfall is gay.
Many people share this sentiment. And I can totally see where they are coming from. Some people just can't stand the "emo" plugin. THis is the only band that appeals to me in this style.
Isis, Mastodon, Cult of Luna, early Cave In, Drowningman, etc. all rule.
Rep points for that, my man. :tickled:

"Overshadowed" was perhaps a misnomer by me. By that I meant that there were bands that came before DEP that did it better in skill and songwriting. If you compare the popularity of the bands, then DEP wins hands down. Sorry for the confusion.

And seeing you are a fan of those bands, I strongly suggest looking into Deadguy and especially Kiss It Goodbye. :)

I think this is a bit confusing. Fair enough you prefer Converge, Botch and Knut, but this is cos they're different to dillinger, as opposed to doing what dillinger are doing better. DEP have never made a song like Afghamistam, but then they never will, cos it's not their style. I myself wouldnt say that just because a band is playing 'metalcore' that they are necessarily in the same vein as dillinger. The closest to dillinger's style that I've heard are the bands I mentioned earlier, Into the Moat and Ion Dissonance.

Anyway I love most of the bands you posted. I have all of drowningman's albums (check out the track black tie knife fight for those who havent heard), and hopesfall's 'No wings to speak of' EP is just astounding. New albums is so disappointing though.

I bought Candirias 300 percent density ages ago and its without doubt the biggest piece of shit ever. Its full of "bling bling" rap and open chords played endlessley after eachother with some retard screaming over the top then this fuckin jazz section comes in which is nothing to do with the rest of song. Does anyone actually like this album?

I must admit I've never heard Candiria. After hearing that they rap, I immediately nipped an interest in the bud.

@phon1c- after our discussion about DEP, I went back to Irony is a Dead Scene. I stand corrected. This is much better than I remember. My first few listens did not reveal to me the depth of this release. i wish it was longer though.

Also, I found DEP's self titled album for really cheap, so I bought it. I find this one more interesting than Calculating infinity.

I still have not heard Under the Running Board.

Still, Botch's 'We Are the Romans' and 'An Anthology of Ends' rule all. :tickled:
