... band(s) or drummer(s) to really introduce true double base the kind we are so used to know in most metal?

Was it the fab four (Thrax, Tallica, Slayer and Megadave)?

I dunno... listen to "Fireball" by Deep Purple, sure sounds like double bass (though films I've seen from that time only show a single bass on Ian Paice's kit).

I'll give it to Moon, though I don't think it was the tru "Metal" style that he did.
Keith was more like Chaotic genius on the Kit!
I'm still sticking with MOTORHEAD, in regards to the "metal style" Double Bass sound.

I'm not sure about Motorhead and Phil - I'll check out No Remorse and see what I hear on the old tunes; maybe Exciter, Raven or some early power Metal band from the early 80s.

I know Neil Peart and the drummer from Journey had double bass set up but that may have been more for solos.

It's probably someone in the 60s/70s

Ringo Starr is the king of the blast beat!

I'm tellin ya!

Charlie Watts is no push over either. That dude needs a new drum set after every show because he just smashes them. Soooooo, I am going to have say it is a tie between Charllie Watts and Ringo.

Does he actually NEED a new set, or does he choose to use a new set?

Well, I think Keith Moon and Ginger Baker (Cream) were the first drummers to use two bass drums in rock, but they didn't use it like most drummers do now, sometimes they played the two bass drums simultaneously to get a bigger sound!

The first ever drummer to use two bass drums was Louie Bellson I think (in the 1940-50's)

I'm just being a smartass, Mikey:grin: . Charlie Watts has got to be the most subpar drummer out there. I have always said that the Rolling Stones are a garage band that should still be playing dive bars. I think the Stones suck ass.

OK, that explains that, I like the Stones, but Charlie Watts ain't no Charlie Benante!lol
