They kick ass but I really dont have a favorite.

Steve Digorgio kicks ass. I forgot how to spell his name, the dude from Testament, Sadus , and Death.

Joey Dimeo rocks too. Williams tale, Flgith of the bumblee bee, and blackwind fire and steel kick ass.

Billy Sheenan is amazing though, that guy can play with anyone.

CLiff Burton, Tom ARAYa , Dave ellefson rock too.

Goat help us if these are the only two choices. :loco:

David Ellefson, Les Claypool, and Melvin Gibbs are my three all time favorites. There are a lot of great stoner/desert bassists though, in fact damn near every band I've heard from said persuasion have a pretty awesome bassist. Also, I'm fond of my own playing, if I wasn't I'd quit. :p

Stever Harris is actually mine. Because he plays the bass like it was ment to be played, he doesn't try to revolutionize it and play it as a lead instrument (les claypool) or anything like that. He just plays it in a perfect way to bring the entire song together, without being egotistical. In my opinion....

Some of my favorites: Sean Malone (genius), Chris Squire, Tony Levin (an innovator and has one of the coolest websites around), Colin Edwin of Porcupine Tree (highly underrated player and amazing live), Lars Norberg (when are we going to hear more from him?)

ah.. a topic worthy of discussion i see. I was listening to some Maiden which spurned this question from my brain. I don't think there are many other bands in which the bass lines are so important and up front on the mix. Yes claypool, sheehan and others came to mind as well and are outstanding players but I think Steve Harris stands out the most as far as sound production

Geddy Lee
He plays bass how it should be plays. He injects the perfect amount of bass into songs and can play with skill and technical brilliance.

Geezer Butler
The perfect Bassist for Metal, he delivers a thunderous sound with skill which fits in nicely to Sabbath;'s sound.

Flea
Confident innovative bassist who makes the Chili Pepper's sound.

Les Claypool
Simply amazing, he can play bass riffs which are impossible, technically perfect.

Cliff Burton
Similar to Geezer but less thunderous and more innovative, although his sound fits in well with the music.

Jaco Pastorius
Jazz bassist who plays very complex and domineering bass lines.

Steve Harris
Nice bass with complex time changes. Technically brilliant.

ahem, anyone like slapbass? I love it, but i know many elitists hate it. I actually think whoever Mudvayne's bassist is, is damn good. And I like Korns slap bass. Im am ready to get flamed for those comments, but if there is one thing I like about the aformentioned bands, it is their bass guitarists.

Personally id like to see more extreme bands try it.

ryan martini is his name i think, the guy from mudvayne. excellent indeed

hmmm guess i like les claypool, geddy lee, ryan, gene simmons(on occasion in some kiss songs he makes sweet sweet love to his bass), and alex webster
