Everytime I touch or get really close to my SM57 I am getting electrocuted. I am guessing it has something to do with the fact I am playing guitar because my singer is singing out of the same PA and having no problems. Any thoughts?

EDIT: I said mix...what the hell....I need to get rest....should say mic....

If that was true, then anyone you've ever seen singing lead or background vocals in a band while playing guitar is getting shocked constantly.

My former bassist was having this problem for a while, and when he switched mics, the problem went away. I think this is the result of bad grounding, and the mic can be fixed by somebody who knows what they're doing. Also make sure that you're not running phantom power into your SM57!!!

Ha...I know what you mean. I really have to try and figure this out. Last night at practice I bumbed into the mic with on of my teeth and it shooked me. My tooth felt like hell for like an hour. :zombie:

Bad ground for sure. Be careful, dude! Remember what happened to Ace Frehley? :zombie:

Swap it out for a different mic. If it still happens, try a different cable. SM57s are actually pretty fragile in my experience, in spite of their reputation. I've found Audix mics to be way more durable than the Shure stuff. When you have cave men for band members as I have had in the past, this matters!

At your wallsocket, try turning the plug 180 degrees (the powerchord to the mixer). Don't ask me why, I've seen it working - something about phase...

Hmm... I think Chad's in the USA. Denmark has totally different wall sockets, you can't flip a plug here in the USA unless it's ungrounded. I've never seen a piece of pro audio gear that's ungrounded, besides some vintage (1960s) pieces.

Yeah, but ground lifts are put in use on modern gear frequently in the studio.
