not that im complaining as i love it but i was just wondering that it must be hard, i mean if i were to sing in sweedish or french i would find it harder to write and sing. i think it may be because most listeners are english speaking, is that the reason? just wondering. thanks

in my experince most swedish ppl speak better english than british and american ppl...esp. americans :)

i suppose its so your music can reach more ppl...probably less than 10 million ppl speak swedish...100s of millions speak english

i'd have to agree, it's probably because when they learn they learn the ''Standard English'' whilst people born english speaking have grown up with variations spoken due to things like living on estates etc. well i cant be bothered to explain what happens in my a level english classes and explain more so i'll stop. but i would love to hear a sweedish sung song by opeth wouldn't you?

I think a lot of non english bands sing and write their songs in
English mainly because they all grew up listening to other
bands singing in English.
They're used to certain words in songs etc.

Another thing is that writing in English is a bit "unpersonal".
A poem, or a songlyric is often extremly personal,
so to distance it a bit you write it in another language.
Pluss, for me, when I write my songs, I always write
them in English. Because first off, Norwegian would be
too personal, and second the lyrics would just sound stupid
in Norwegian! We're used to English, and don't really think
about what everything means. Like, do you ever think about
all the stupid band-names there are?!?
I get shocked every time I sit down and think about what
they all mean.. Hehe...

Ya, the English language is sort of like "too much used".
(Dunno how to write this but....)

All words are taken, all phrases are used. Nothing original to
come up with. So writing in another language is quite cool,
and new ) Wish I will be able to write a song with
nonenglish lyrics one day >:eek:P
