What I always do is right click on the image file and select "open with" and choose Microsoft office picture manager. Hopefully you'll have that program, because from there you can easily set a size for the image.

in this instance, yes i am. i have an issue with computers. i can surf the web, send email, and watch porn. anything above that gives me a headache. i'll try the picture manager thingy first

I use Paint.NET for all basic image editing stuff. Far more lightweight than things like Photoshop and GIMP (which are complete overkill if all you want to do is resize images and basic stuff like that) and I like it a lot better than Irfanview myself.
