so it took me two and a half hours to upload a 10MB mp3 of one of my demos to my website last night. and the time it took for my computer at work to download it this morning?

six minutes...

ps. i have had two pina coladas, finished off my bottle of whiskey, and am now on my third or fourth beer. yeh.

I sympathise. Now that I'm at home, the computer I use sucks massively and the internet is so damn slow. I'm afraid this will seriously affect my posting time.

your ISP probably has an upload speed cap but not a download speed cap. or maybe if you have a cable modem, less people had their tvs on while you were downloading.
