why?

A real drumkit is ideal of course, but there are times when a full blown kit isn't possible for reasons of noise, space, etc. I see from your sig. that you use EZDrummer. Try it with a MIDI controller, you won't be disappointed. It's far more expressive than placing notes on a grid with a mouse, and a hell of a lot more fun. The guy in the video has a fancy midi controller and an expensive muse receptor (which I have major GAS for but thats another topic) but you can do the same thing with a simpler set up.

Maybe it´s not only for real drummers.
Could be for example guitarists with a strong own groove also. You don´t have to be a drummer to learn this finger technic.
I always hated the scientific aspect of programming instead of having a possibility to convert your own feel for rhythm into drum sound, so I think I would try it.

i didn't bother watching the video, but i've had success with tapping out intricate kick parts on a mic, then slapping drumagog on the track

i've even gone so far as setting up 4 mics and tapping out tom fills on them with pencils

I have always thought about doing this.

Must sound awesome when you bypass drumagog.
