Tonight it is on.

Anthrax at the Cotillion in Wichita.

The best show I have ever seen, period, was Anthrax in the fall of '87 at the same venue. It completely changed everything about what I thought about music and style. I hadn't seen metal guitarists sporting pebbles and bam-bam shorts before. Or since, for that matter.

It was all so new, so loud and so good. Joey even stepped, er, stomped, on my head at one point. The "not" sign was in full bloom. And the encore included God Save the Queen.

My old friends are finally back. Tonight. And my 40-year-old ass is stoked for a little war dance.

I will let you know how it goes tomorrow. Possibly from a hospital bed.

Ok.

I am alive. Which is a good thing.

Thrax ruled Wichita last evening. The show went till midnight. The band was tight, loud and very good. The experience surpassed even my lofty expectations. I expected to hang in the back, but once they started playing, I was compelled to worm my way close to the stage and into the action.

Highlights for me included "be all end all" "Aftershock" "Antisocial" "Time" "Medusa" and of course the stuff from Among -- the cream of the crop of which for me was NFL. By the way, Scott Ian rules his motherfucking instrument. In case you haven't noticed.

If you can catch 'em, catch 'em. Like I have to tell anybody here that.

Yes, the show was fuckin great...felt like a 16 old thrash freak again. Joey had a great show, the mid-range verses in MEDUSA were amazing, he was his old self throughout the show having a great time. The band killed. Scott was especially into the set. I could have easily listened to em for much longer. They delved deep into spreading and among, nothing into the 90's, except 'got the time' from persistence. The crowd was into it with most everyone singing along loudly. The fucking goon bouncers were dicks as usual. I figure there was somewhere between 800 and 1000 in attendance. I hope this lineup records...they were GREAT last night!

horrorthrash makes a great point about Joey's voice. I purchased the live reunion dvd a few months ago and felt that Joey sounded a tad rusty at the time -- which is to be expected. At the Wichita show, however, he was in full throated glory of the past -- hitting all of the notes with the skill of a true metal god. Which, of course, he is.

killer, thanks man.....post on here if any good shows come to the area again. Unfortunately i do not live in KS anymore (damned wife anyways), but I WILL travel for a good show! It also seems that they favor the red floods.....
